The BAttle of new Orleans
On December 24, 1814, the negotiators signed the Treaty of Ghent, ending the War of 1812. Throughout the war the Americans had been taking a beating in all of the battles. It came to the Battle of New Orleans for America to finally take their stand and take a desicive victory home. However, the Battle of New Orleans took place in January of 1815, how could this battle have been so important? When a british fleet of 7,500 men landed near New Orleans General Andrew Jackson was forced to think quickly on his feet. He improvised a quick defense using cotton bales to absorb ther British bullets. The fighting ended with a desicive victory in favor of the Americans, the battle created such pride throughout the Americans, helped destroy the federalist party, and made Andrew Jackson a national hero.
